2-day Pop-Up Public Art Installation at Chandler Hovey Park Aug 13/14
The public is invited to watch the construction on Saturday and experience the sculpture at sunrise on Sunday.
The public art design team that brought last summer’s one-day pop-up art installation to Marblehead’s Goldthwait Reservation returns to Marblehead for a two-day installation on August 13 and 14 at Chandler Hovey Park.
The installation, designed by Jeremy Barnett and Jason Maracani, will be constructed of painted wood to represent six trees growing out of the rocky shoreline surrounding the lighthouse.
Installation on Sat., August 13, begins at 8 a.m. with site preparation and construction. At 11 a.m. the artists will conduct an “Open Studio” for the public to see the process and talk to the artists while installation continues. By about 6:30 p.m. the installation should be completed. The artists will remain on site until last light at approximately 8 p.m.

On Sun., August 14, the public is invited to join the artists for a special viewing at sunrise until 8 a.m. – a time that promises to offer an especially beautiful viewing opportunity. Deconstruction is planned for the afternoon so scheduled outdoor worship services will not be disrupted.
Full approval for this project has been granted by the Marblehead Park and Recreation Department.

Jeremy and Jason have completed three other installations in Marblehead – at Marblehead Little Theatre and on Gene Arnould’s building in the summer of 2020, and in July 2021 they collaborated on a one-day pop-up art piece titled “Sketch in Yellow” on the shoreline of Goldthwait Reservation.
“The goal of our work is to reimagine beautiful landscapes using graphic shapes and bold colors, in order to draw attention to the space's natural beauty and offer viewers a chance to experience the location in a new way,” Jason said.
Most recently, Jeremy and Jason designed and installed a multi-site community art exhibition in west Michigan, titled "Spaces for Discovery.” The exhibition includes seven public art installations, each between 25 and 1,000 feet in size, spread throughout four communities in west Michigan. The exhibition is on view through September.
The team has been collaborating for 10 years to create outdoor art installations in Marblehead, the Midwest and in Spain.
