2 Inmates Escape Essex County Facility

LAWRENCE, MA — Two inmates are on the run after escaping the minimum security Lawrence Correctional Alternative Center Wednesday, authorities said.

A search was launched for Manuel Perez, 22, and Levi Montalvo, 23, both of Puerto Rico, after they were reported missing Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Perez has several tattoos on his hands and forearms, including a Puerto Rican flag on his right hand. Montalvo has skull tattoos on his arm, back and stomach.

Perez was being held for car theft, and Montalvo was being held for violating a protective order, authorities said, adding both have family connections to Lawrence.

"While they are not classified as violent offenders, the public is urged not to approach them if spotted as they may be dangerous," Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins said in a statement.
