3 Voices Presents "What You Need To Know For Financial Security"

Featuring Financial Advisor Rebecca Linhart - November 13

Marblehead, Massachusetts – Financial advisor Rebecca Linhart will address financial issues of special interest to women during the next “3 Voices” session on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at 7 p.m. at Abbot Library, 235 Pleasant St., in Marblehead, on what women need to know for financial security.

“I don’t know about you, but I was taught to never, ever speak about money. Without giving away my age too much, I was also told that a man should be my financial plan,” Linhart says. “Well, thank goodness, life turned out differently! Finding my financial voice has been a lifesaving, confidence-building, momentous occasion in my life. So much so, I changed careers at a late age to pass my new-found skills onto others.”

Linhart explains that decades ago it was normal for a woman to be chiefly a care-giver, housekeeper or wife. It was the husband who would give weekly allowances to the kids. The resulting lack of confidence about personal finance decisions has long been a source of frustration for women, hindering their ability to take greater control of family finances and, ultimately, retirement.

But today’s women need to be more confident about finances for a variety of reasons, Linhart emphasizes. First, she notes, women have spent fewer years in the workforce. Due to their role as care-givers, many women could only work part-time. Second, women are living longer than men. And third, marriages have a 50 percent chance of lasting, according to researchers.

By taking a more active role in their financial decisions, women will gain more clarity, confidence and control of their lives.

Linhart’s presentation will begin with the basics: How can you determine your financial snapshot? How much do you need to live your current lifestyle? How much do you need to save for emergencies? What financial goals do you have and how will you fund them? How much do you need to save for retirement? How does credit fit into your life? Will you have enough money to live the rest of your life without having to impose on your children? Should you invest? What can you expect from your investments? Does it make a difference when you start Social Security? How can you sort through the Medicare options? How can you detect financial abuse and what can you do about it?

This session is a special opportunity for women of all ages to come, share experiences, bring questions and review together what you can do to find your financial voice.

Following the formal program, there will be light refreshments and an opportunity for conversation.

“We thank Abbot Library, The League of Women Voters and MHTV for their continued support of these important programs,” said Judy Gates, founder of 3 Voices.
