9-Year-Old All-Stars Crush Swampscott in Wyoma Tournament
The team earned a decisive shutout in its first game Wednesday.
The Marblehead 9-year-old all-stars got off to a strong start in the Wyoma Tournament, at Gowdy Memorial Playground in Lynn, by shutting out Swampscott 10-0 on Wednesday night. The game was stopped in the fifth inning due to the 10-run "mercy rule."
Eli Cohen controlled the game from the mound, pitching the first four innings. He struck out 10 Swampscott batters, including three straight in the second inning. Spencer Perkins came in as relief in the bottom of the fifth, striking out two more hitters while preserving the shutout.
Marblehead started off the scoring early, as Charlie Kahn, Ryan Dombal and Jake Miller all reached home in the top of the first inning.

After a scoreless second, the all-stars scored another three runs in the third as Jacob Bornstein, Kahn and Cohen were driven home on hits from Miller and Jacob Garfield.
In the fourth, Bornstein plated Aiden Burke on an infield ground-out to make the score 7-0. Marblehead went on to close out the game in the fifth, on runs from Dombal, Mille and Chris Gally.

Garfield finished the game with two hits and three RBI, leading the way for Marblehead at the plate.
Kahn made the defensive play of the game in the third, when he made an outstanding backhanded grab on a hard-bouncing grounder to second, which he then threw to first to make the put-out.
Marblehead's next game is against Nahant on Saturday at 9 a.m.
