9-Year-Olds Beat Undefeated Wakefield
In their closest win yet, the all-stars move into a three-way tie for first place in the Wyoma Tournament.
Coming off of their first loss in the Wyoma Tournament, the Marblehead 9-Year-Old All-Stars earned a hard-fought 4-2 victory over previously undefeated Wakefield on Saturday at Gowdy Memorial Playground in Lynn.
Coach Mark Cohen was pleased his team "played error-free ball against a very good team," after their error-filled 12-6 loss to the Wyoma Blue Wednesday.
Marblehead scored their first two runs early in the game, as Chris Gally drove in Eli Cohen with an RBI-double and Jake Miller returned the favor with an RBI-single that plated Gally in the bottom of the first inning.

Wakefield responded in the second, scoring a run of their own on a Michael McKean double and an infield RBI-grounder from Brian McGonagle. On the mound, Jake Nardone was able to keep Marblehead scoreless in the bottom of the inning, making the score 2-1 after two.
Marblehead was able to extend their lead in the third. Hayden Rausch drew a walk and moved around the diamond with some smart base-running. Once on third, Gally came through with his second RBI-single of the game, putting Marblehead on top 3-1.

Wakefield responded again with a run in the fourth as Jake Regan reached base with a single and moved his way around to home.
The back and forth scoring continued as Marblehead scored again in the fifth as Charlie Kahn drove in Jacob Bornstein to give Marblehead back its two-run lead at 4-2.
Cohen pitched a great game for the local boys, throwing the maximum 75 pitches allowed for this age group. He pitched a solid three innings, striking out six and only allowing two hits and a single run.
Miller came in to finish the game, pitching three strong innings of one run baseball of his own, and securing the win for Marblehead. He struck out two and walked one, not allowing an earned hit.
Cohen said of the game, "It was by far our best effort of the season against the best team we played this tournament."
Their next game is against the Lynnfield Blue on Monday at 5:30 p.m. This will be their last game before the tournament playoffs, which start on Saturday, July 31.
