9-Year-Olds Continue To Dominate
The young team wins another game in decisive fashion; this time defeating Winthrop 12-3.
The Marblehead 9-year-old All-Stars racked up another win in the Wyoma Tournament. This time, they defeated Winthrop 12-3 on Thursday at Gowdy Memorial Playground in Lynn.
The team has yet to lose a game in the tournament, and have disposed of their opponents by a combined score of 31-5 in just three games.
The scoring started early for Marblehead as Jacob Garfield, Eli Cohen and Charlie Young, the first three batters, all scored in the first inning. Garfield made it around the bases after a single and two passed balls, while Cohen reached on a single and was knocked in by a hard-hit triple into right field by Young. Ryan Dombal also had a single in the inning, which scored Young and brought the score to 3-0.

After being held scoreless in the second, Marblehead came out swinging in the third, getting runs from Aiden Burke and Garfield. Young recorded another RBI in the third, on a sacrifice groundout to second base that drove in Burke.
Marblehead scored another two runs in the third because of pitching and fielding woes for Winthrop. Charlie Kahn and Chris Gally scored in the inning for the local All-Stars, as they increased their lead to 7-0.

The fifth inning was Marblehead's best, as they scored four more runs and put the game clearly out of Winthrop's reach. Young, Dombal, Tom Woodfin and Kahn reached home in the inning, as Dombal and Kahn recorded RBIs on singles.
Winthrop finally broke the shutout, and prevented a "mercy rule" situation, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. This wasn't enough to catch the Marblehead boys though, as they would score another run in the sixth and close out the game with a 12-3 win.
Marblehead's pitching shut down Winthrop. Jake Miller took the mound first for Marblehead, pitching a solid two innings, facing seven batters and earning two strikeouts while only allowing one hit and one walk.
He was relieved in the third by Dombal, who took up right where Miller left off, pitching two scoreless innings of his own, including three straight strikeouts in the third. In all, he struck out five of the seven batters he faced, walking one and not allowing a hit.
Kahn took over pitching duties in the fifth, and had some difficulties, allowing two hits, one walk and three runs. He did manage to strike out three of the six batters he faced.
Spencer Perkins came in to close out the game in the sixth for Marblehead, and he made short work of it, retiring the side in order.
Marblehead remains undefeated in the tournament and they will take their 3-0 record up against Reading on Saturday at 2 p.m.
