9-Year-Olds Roll Past Lynnfield
In only four innings, the Marblehead 9-year-old All Stars dispatched the boys from Lynnfield 15-2 in their last Wyoma Tournament game before the playoffs.
The 9-year-old All-Stars from Marblehead have been playing very tight baseball in the Wyoma Tournament. They had a very tough, error filled 12-4 loss to host Wyoma, which was followed by a hard-fought 4-2 win over previously undefeated Wakefield over the weekend.
The game Monday night, on Sawyer field at Gowdy Memorial Playground against Lynnfield, was a much more controlled contest. Marblehead controlled the tempo, in their last game before the tournament playoffs, and took the victory in a 15-2 four inning "mercy rule'" shortened game.
The local boys came out in the top of the first inning with their first four batters scoring. Jacob Garfield led off with a walk and he quickly stole second base. Eli Cohen moved Garfield to third with a single and advanced to second as Lynnfield tried for the out at third.

Chris Gally followed Cohen with an RBI-single to start off the scoring rally. Cohen went on to score on a past ball, while Jake Miller drew the inning's second walk. Next, Spencer Perkins drove home Gally, as his hard hit ball made it through the Lynnfield third-baseman.
Aidan Burke drove in the fourth run of the first, connecting on a single that brought Miller across the plate.

Lynnfield was able to gain two runs back in the bottom of the first, as their first two batters scored, but those proved to be the only runs they would produce in the game.
Marblehead extended their lead exponentially as the innings progressed, scoring five runs in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth and final inning.
The highlight of the second inning was Perkins' towering blast to center-field with bases loaded. The hit brought home Cohen, Gally and Miller, and landed Perkins on third base. In the inning, Miller also earned himself an RBI as he drove home Garfield prior to Perkins' deep ball.
The hit parade continued into the third inning, as Charlie Kahn and Hayden Rausch tallied RBI-doubles and runs, bringing the score to 13-2.
In the fourth inning, Perkins and Ryan Dombal both crossed home, as Burke blasted a pitch into deep right field. He nearly turned the two-RBI hit into a three-run homerun, but he was tagged out in a very close play at the plate to end the inning.
Marblehead used a different pitcher in every inning to get the job done against Lynnfield. Combining for the win were Perkins in the first, Dombal in the second, Gally in the third, and Kahn in the fourth.
Perkins faced five batters, striking out one and allowing two runs and one walk. Dombal made quick work of his time on the mound, facing only four batters, getting all three outs via strikeout. Gally faced four, walking one and striking out one, while Kahn pitched a perfect 1-2-3 fourth, gathering one strikeout.
The tournament playoffs are scheduled for Saturday July 31, when the top two teams in the National League and American League will face off for a spot in the championship game on Monday August 2.
