Performer to Teach Acting for Dancers at Marblehead School

Calling dancers! Prominent performer Karen Pisani guest teaches Acting for Dancers master class at Marblehead School of Ballet in July.

Acclaimed North Shore performer, choreographer, and dancer Karen Pisani joins the Marblehead School of Ballet's (MSB) faculty this summer guest teaching a special Acting for Dancers master class. Dancers are invited to attend this master class on July 16 and 17 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the school, located at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts. To register for the master classes, contact 781-631-6262 or send an e-mail to msb[at]havetodance.com.

This featured master class shows dancers how to act and communicate with an audience.
"Actors are communicators! Just like there are dance technique classes, there are also classes offered to learn acting techniques. An actor’s job is to tell the story; a dancer must also convey the details of a ballet. Do you have the tools to connect with the audience?" asked Karen Pisani.

Her luminous career includes Dance Captain and performer in the National Touring Company of A Chorus Line and dancing in Gypsy, Dames at Sea, Fiddler on the Roof, and Stop the World! I Want to Get Off. Ms. Pisani's lengthy list of credits spans 32 years as choreographer for the Hasty Pudding Theatricals and the special event at Harvard's 350th celebration.

In Washington, D.C., she choreographed the Jack Lemmon segment of the Kennedy Center Honors. As Artistic Director of the National Dance Institute/New England with Jacques D'Amboise of the New York City Ballet, she worked with 500 Boston area school children choreographing their Event of the Year and their television spot on Channel 4's Kidsfair. Her television credits include choreographing commercials for MediaOne and serving as dance captain on the special Baryshnikov on Broadway starring Liza Minnelli and Mikail Baryshnikov. She also performed with the North Shore Civic Ballet.

"The Marblehead School of Ballet has been a valued part of my dance education. I appreciate the dedication and expertise of all the teachers and staff, especially Director Paula Shiff. During my time with the North Shore Civic Ballet Company, I have made lifelong friends. And, the pleasure is all mine to reciprocate in some small way. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and students are my favorite people!" said Pisani.
