Alpine Ski Team Going Strong

Alpine Ski Team Going Strong

The following information was submitted by Robin Berry:

Despite record low snowfall and unseasonably high temperatures, the Massachusetts Bay Ski League East is going strong and Marblehead alpine skiers are proving once again they are a force to be reckoned with.

After three consecutive years of bringing home the state championship, the girls are first in the large school division after the first three races of the season.  The boys, ranked second in their division, are coming on strong demonstrating they are potential contenders as well.

The team traveled to the Blue Hills on January 26th for their first slalom race of the season.  According to Coach Matt Dawson, “The conditions at Blue Hills were not ideal for racing but the team had good course inspections and were prepared for the race.  And as the race went along quality course reports were making their way up the hill from strong finishes from Leah, Sydney and Maggie so the later starters had some more insight on what to expect for their run and Ali and

Haley, our 7th and 8th starters, respectively, came through with some great results for the team.  As for the boys, the team leaders, Kyle, Charlie and Jason, are such strong skiers and skied the tough conditions with ease and are right in the mix with the top racers in the league.  Jon and Jack also took advantage of their teammates’ course reports and skied to strong finishes to help the team.  I’m looking forward to more results from them in future races.”
