MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead will implement road closures, one-way traffic changes and parking restrictions for several large public events planned over the Fourth of July weekend, beginning Friday.
For the Horribles Parade on July 4, with a rain date of July 5, closures will begin at 9 a.m. Pleasant Street will close between Spring Street and Washington Street South, and Spring Street will become one-way from Pleasant Street to Sewall Street. Essex Street will also be closed in its entirety during parade staging and movement.
For the fireworks display on July 4, also with a rain date of July 5, several changes will begin at 7 p.m. Front Street will close to all traffic between Franklin Street and Fort Sewall Lane, and parking there will be prohibited. Franklin Street will become one-way from Front Street to Washington Street, and Washington Street will become one-way from Franklin Street to State Street.
The Causeway does not get closed unless there is an emergency before, during or after the fireworks.
After the fireworks, traffic leaving the beach parking lots will merge with traffic leaving the neck and may turn only right or left at Ocean and Atlantic avenues.
Front Street will close at State Street for pedestrian traffic coming from Fort Sewall, and State Street will become one-way from Front Street to Washington Street.
Traffic from the area between State Street and Franklin Street, as well as Pond Street, will be directed along Mugford Street and Green Street to West Shore Drive. The MBTA route from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. will follow the pre-designated snow route.
For the Festival of Arts Street Festival on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Washington Street will close between Rockaway Street and Darling Street. Hooper Street and Mason Street will also close between Tucker Street and Washington Street, while Rockaway and Darling streets will remain open.
"No Parking" will be in effect on Washington Street between Rockaway Street and Darling Street from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the town said violators will be subject to towing.
