MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Arts Association has announced a month of August programs that will bring exhibits, open studios, a lecture and live jazz to town.
The events are centered at the association's galleries at 8 Hooper Street and at participating artist studios across Marblehead.
The schedule begins Aug. 9, with the opening reception for the Marblehead Arts Association Late Summer Solo Exhibits from 2 to 4 p.m. The show features work by Juried Artists Lucia Balinbin, Annette Sykes, Jessica Murdock, Christen Mailler and Richard Honan, along with "The Spirit of '76" themed Artist Members exhibit. Admission is free, complimentary refreshments will be served, and the exhibits will run through Sept. 19.
The association said its galleries are open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Donations are being accepted. More information is available at marbleheadarts.org.
On Aug. 16, Marblehead Arts Association will host the first Marblehead Art Crawl & Open Studios from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The organization said more than 25 local artists will open their studios so visitors can meet them and learn about their work.

The month's educational program is set for Aug. 20, at 6 p.m., when MAA will host a lecture titled "The Silver Crisis: Art vs. Industry." Graham Henderson of Marblehead Custom Jewelry will give the talk on the story of silver through multiple lenses, and historian Judy Anderson will discuss silver made locally during the colonial period, according to the announcement. Tickets are listed at $10 for MAA members and $15 for non-members here.
The month closes with the organization's monthly jazz series on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. MAA and Arnould Gallery are hosting a performance by Yoron Israel and his band, High Standards, with tenor and soprano saxophones, piano, bass and drums.
The concert will be held upstairs in the ballroom at the historic Hooper Mansion with cabaret-style seating and a cash bar. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 through the Marblehead Arts Association, Arnould Gallery in Marblehead, and online here.
