NAHANT, MA — A man was hospitalized after being rescued from the water off East Point in Nahant this weekend after officials said a wave knocked two people off the disabled boat on Saturday.
Nahant Fire Chief Austin Antrim and Police Chief Timothy Furlong said emergency responders rushed to the shore at about 1 p.m on Saturday after reports of two people struggling in the water.
One of the boaters was able to get back aboard the boat, while the second became unresponsive during a water rescue attempt with a life preserver.
Firefighters were able to pull the man from the water and began providing lifesaving care.
The victim was brought by the rescue boat to the Town Wharf to an awaiting ambulance, then transported by Atlantic Ambulance to Salem Hospital.
There was no update on the victim's condition as of Tuesday morning.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the boat lost power just off East Point. Another boat stopped to assist the victims when the wave knocked the two people into the water.
The Swampscott Fire Department, Swampscott Harbormaster and Lynn Fire Department also provided mutual aid.
Nahant officials said the incident remains under investigation.
