Marblehead Police Urge Halloween Caution, Detail Oct. 29 Road Closures

Police urged adult supervision, reflective gear and slower driving as Halloween approaches in Marblehead.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead police are urging families and drivers to take extra care as Halloween approaches, while also outlining road closures tied to a business district trick-or-treating event on Oct. 29.

The Marblehead Police Department said children should be dressed for the weather — which is expected to be relatively mild this year — and wear reflective clothing or carry flashlights so they can be seen in the dark.

The department said young trick-or-treaters should always be accompanied by an adult. Older children should be reminded how to trick-or-treat safely and use the buddy system so no one walks alone.

Drivers should also be extra cautious and drive slowly, paying careful attention to trick-or-treaters who may be unaware of traffic.

The Marblehead Police Department strongly recommends that trick-or-treating be done between 5 and 8 p.m.

Marblehead Police will also assist the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce with this year's Trick-or-Treating in the Business Districts event, scheduled for Oct. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Several roads will be closed from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and drivers are being told to seek alternate routes. The main closure will affect Washington Street from the bottom of Pleasant Street to Rockaway Street. Summer Street will also be closed during that time.

Traffic at the end of Pleasant Street will be detoured to turn left onto Washington Street. Traffic on Washington Street will be directed to turn left onto Rockaway Street.

Residents planning to attend Halloween activities or drive through the area Thursday evening may want to build in extra travel time and follow posted detours.
