This summer downtown Marblehead businesses announce
they will be staying open late. Twenty eight businesses, restaurants and museums on Washington Street and lower
Pleasant Street will be open until at least 7pm for 10 weeks June 27 through Sept 6, 2013. Kristen Pollard, owner of Mud Puddle Toys says “This initiative has come from customer feedback requesting evening hours”. In addition to extended hours, businesses will be hosting game nights, special events and promotions. You
may find a guitarist or two, an acappella group or sidewalk artists entertaining you while you shop, dine and explore. “We’re hoping to promote an environment where residents and visitors alike can enjoy beautiful downtown
Marblehead during summer evenings” says Elayne Doliber of Marblehead Outfitters, “with the goal of bringing more people downtown to take in the sights, restaurants and shops that this part of town offers. ”This effort is
organized by a group of volunteer residents and downtown business owners. To help publicize the event, summer interns will distribute rack cards to local yacht clubs, B&B’s, information booths and hotels. Julie Vinette owner of Haley’s Wine and Market Café has donated her time and talent for creating the rack card, while Doris Barsauskas and her husband Vytas, owners of MacKimmie Co., along with Eyal Oren of Wednesdays in Marblehead, have provided the images.
