Democrats from across the state--hundreds from Cape Cod to Lowell, to Worcester to the Berkshires—came together this weekend to discuss candidates, issues and ideas in their annual grassroots meetings that have been at the heart of Democratic success over the past several years.

As part of the statewide effort, Marblehead Democrats held their caucus Saturday, February 16, 2013. They elected 13 delegates to attend the 2013 Democratic Convention in July. Chair of the Committee Philip Sweeney led the caucus and focused on getting organized for the upcoming election.

Volunteers attended the caucus to collect signatures and plan future canvasses and voter outreach efforts. Sweeney stated, “People in Marblehead are energized by the Democratic candidates in this election because we have the best ideas to keep moving our state forward and we’re ready to build upon last year’s successes and start knocking on doors.”

Over 500 caucuses are being held across the Commonwealth this month where thousands will be in attendance talking about this upcoming election.

“It is very exciting to see fellow Democrats coming together and organizing on the ground. The people of Massachusetts voted overwhelmingly for President Obama to be re-elected and we cannot send a Republican to Washington that will go against the President’s agenda. While Democrats across the state have been organizing and collecting signatures for our candidates, Republicans have been in a chaotic whirlwind, rushing to buy signatures because they don’t have the grassroots organization to collect them,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Executive Director Clare Kelly.
