Eleven seniors at Commonwealth School, nearly 30% of the class, have been named as semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship program. They are:

- Ruth Hanna of Brighton
- Benjamin Kim of Newton Highlands
- Amanda Lee of Watertown
- Carin Papendorp of Somerville
- Daniel Rubin of Waban
- Keller Scholl of Needham
- Samuel Shapiro of Boston
- Meghan Smith of Marblehead
- Curtis Stone of Boston
Commonwealth had the most semifinalists of any co-ed high school in the Boston area; only the all-male Roxbury Latin had more.
National Merit Finalists will be announced in the spring. Over the last five years, 23% of Commonwealth seniors have been chosen as National Merit finalists; 62% of seniors overall have been recognized as National Merit finalists, semifinalists, or commended students.

Earlier this year, three Commonwealth students were named as semifinalists in the Presidential Scholar program, the highest percentage of any senior class in the nation.
