North Shore Elder Services honors Right at Home and their commitment to the Virtual Dementia Tour

(SALEM, MA)  Right at Home of the North Shore and
Merrimack Valley
, a local home care agency owned by
Marblehead residents, Rosaleen Doherty and Jay Kenney was honored by North Shore Elder Services at their annual We Give Thanks
Award at Spinelli’s in Lynnfield, MA this past month.

Right at Home won the Innovations Award for their commitment to bringing
the Virtual Dementia Tour to several thousand elder care professionals, first
responders and Alzheimer’s caregivers in the North Shore and the Merrimack
Valley. Right at Home has been doing the Virtual Dementia Tour for over two
years in the local area.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a scientifically proven method
designed to build sensitivity and awareness in individuals caring for those
with dementia. It was developed by PK Beville, an Alzheimer’s researcher and is
distribute by Second Wind Dreams in Georgia. The Tour allows participants to
“feel” what it may be like to have the visual, perceptual, physical and mental
disabilities that a person with dementia may experience. It is a powerful
training because it lets the participant gain a “window” into the world of a
dementia patient. Right at Home began running these trainings as a “gift to the
community” since 2010. Right at Home was nominated for the Community Service
Award by Enterprise Bank and honored at the Lowell Auditorium for giving the
Merrimack Valley community access to the training.

Right at Home of the
North Shore and Merrimack Valley
is a family owned and operated home care agency that is celebrating 10 years
of serving seniors on the North Shore and Merrimack Valley. They grew from one
location to four locations serving local seniors providing all levels of
private duty home care including
companionship, personal care, home health aide and private nursing. They
specialize in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. The caregivers go through
sensitivity training to learn what it is like to experience physically and
cognitively what the senior clients might experience through the Virtual
Dementia Tour. Right at Home is licensed by the Commonwealth of MA and carries
all liability and workers comp insurances to protect clients and their
families. All caregivers are background
checked, tested and trained before they start to work for the agency.  There is ongoing health care education for
all workers. Right at Home is responsive and reliable. Call Our Caring
Staff at (978)744-5151

Right at Home uses the
Telephony time carding system. This system insures families that we are there
with their loved one when we are scheduled to be there and alerts us if a
caregiver is late. This system protects our clients 24 hours a day.

From Rosaleen
Doherty:

I started Right at Home of the North Shore and Merrimack Valley with my husband and
business partner Jay Kenney ten years ago when we decided to change our lives-
for the better. At the time, we had an infant girl and a four year old boy.
Over the past decade, we have worked with thousands of seniors and their
families to foster independence in the home with companion and home health care
services. We can help provide respite to a caregiver, companionship, dressing assistance,
grooming assistance, incontinence care, meal preparation, medication reminders
and transportation to appointments. Our mission is to improve the quality of
life for those we serve. Our agency works 24 hours a day and we can provide
services for as little as 1 hour or provide a live-in caregiver.

I try to stay active
in the local community. I am Past President of North Shore Women in
Business and of The Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor. We are active
participants in the North Shore and Merrimack Valley Alzheimer’s Partnerships,
which do the grassroots, work of the Alzheimer’s Association. Right at Home
belongs to our local home care association, the Home
Care Alliance
to stay on top of best practices and trends in private duty
home care. I am a long term member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors,
which is an organized of professionals certified and committed to working with
elder clients through a code of ethics and a discipline of understanding.
