The Service Dog Project at MS walk

The Service dog project was on hand recently at the MS walk held at Marblehead High school, Kaeleigh Cranney holding Mariah, who will someday be placed with a mobility impaired person and Jess Cranney with Dustin who is almost done his training and ready to be placed.

The Service Dog Project (SDP) provides a better quaility of life for the mobility impaired.  SDP has donated over 50 Great Danes as service dogs to individuals who have severe balance and mobility limitations.  These dogs provide a valuable service and have enhanced the quality of life for their owners.

Service dogs have been placed with children, war veterans, persons with Mutiple Sclerosis, Friedreich's Ataxia, Parkinsons and more.  While each dog received extensive training for balance, once a dog is paired with an applicant, the dog is uniquely trained to suit their needs.

The Service Dog Project is a registered 501c3 and is fully accredited by Assistance Dogs International.   SDP has grown to include many volunteers and at anytime will be the home of 40 (or more) dogs in training.  The cost of training a raising a puppy from birth to service is $15,000 and is donated to the recipient, funded solely by the generosity of our expansive community and corporate supporters.
