Andy says “The photographs in this exhibit were taken during multiple visits to the northeast Indian state of Sikkim. Tucked in the Himalayas between Nepal to the west, Tibet to the north, and Bhutan to the east, Sikkim was described in early Buddhist prophecy as a sacred ‘Hidden Land.’ To this photographer, the many Buddhist monasteries of Sikkim, with their riotously colorful exterior ornamentation, provide a singular focus of timelessness and continuity amidst the many currents of change swirling through the region. I have attempted to capture this sense in my photographs, as well scenes in which the Buddhist color palette and imagery intersect with the secular world, sometimes in unexpected ways. The exhibit also includes the series ‘Span of Prayer,’ a photographic meditation on the life cycle of Tibetan prayer flags, which are omnipresent in the region.”
