Athlete of the Week: Kelly Collins
Marblehead High School's girls' lacrosse goal is well protected with senior goalie Kelly Collins on the field.
Marblehead High School senior Kelly Collins is the last line of defense for the girls’ lacrosse team. She’s been guarding the net pretty well this season; the Headers sport a sterling 13-4-1 record, beating Hamilton-Wenham and Peabody earlier this week.
Collins swam until her senior year and was a member of the MHS field hockey team last fall. The team made the playoffs but lost in the first round.
Collins has been with the lacrosse team for four seasons, this is her first year as starting goalie.

“I can count on Kelly,” lacrosse coach Annie Pugh said. “She moves well, she’s very vocal out there and is a big part of our success.”
Collins lives on Grant Road with her mom and dad, her sister Meghan is a sophomore on the lacrosse team, and she has a sister Casey, who’s an eighth grader at the Middle School.

“I like the action, it’s fun to make a save and boost your teammates up,” Collins said.
“I’ll miss Marblehead High when school gets out, but I’ve really enjoyed my time here, it was a great experience for me.”
When Collins looks over her left shoulder to check out the score on the scoreboard on the wall of the high school, she’s sees the name William A Quigley. The scoreboard is dedicated to the former Brigadier General of the National Guard and sailor William A. Quigley. Quigley just happens to be Kelly’s grandfather.
“I miss him for sure,” Collins said. “Every time I look up and see his name it reminds me of him and makes me smile.”

Up next: Working over the summer at Mud Puddle Toys, and then heading off the University of Rhode Island in the fall. “I hope to play on the club lacrosse team at URI if I can.”
