Athlete of the Week: Sarah Hastings

Softball pitcher Sarah Hastings has been super on the mound for the girls' team this season, and she's thrilled to spend her senior year pitching for Marblehead High School.

Marblehead’s Sarah Hastings always dreamed of pitching for the high school softball team. In fact, in eighth grade she wrote a letter to herself and opened it recently and it said just that. “I want to play softball for and be the captain.” Well, she did and she is.

Hastings finished the regular season winning 11 of the 12 games the Headers put in the win column during the 2011 season.

“This summer I’m going to babysit and work at a museum in Salem before I go to college at Plymouth State University,” Hastings said after beating the Big Blue last month.

“I’m looking forward to school and the summer, but we’ve got the state tournament coming up and I’m really excited about that.”

Hastings, a vegetarian, loves to spend time with her friends and go boating whenever she can.  Math is her best subject in school, but English is her favorite class.

Hastings wants to play softball at Plymouth State, but the team is only graduating one senior. Hastings hopes to put on the Green and White of the PSU Panthers when she’s a sophomore.

“The school’s gorgeous, and my aunt went there, it’s kind of a family thing,” Hastings said. “I love the location too.”

Hastings is undeclared, but will explore several avenues of study when she gets settled in the fall.

Hastings lives on Lincoln Avenue with her parents and older sister Rachel.
