Body Discovered Off Marblehead Coast

A body was recovered from the waters off of Marblehead Monday afternoon.

A representative of the US Coast Guard's Boston Office has confirmed that a body was recovered about five miles off the coast of Marblehead Monday afternoon.

According to the US Coast Guard, at 3:57 p.m., an alert was issued that a body was discovered floating about five miles East of the Marblehead coast.

Troopers assigned to the State Police Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard and the State Police Detective Unit for Essex County reportedly responded to the scene.

At 5 p.m. Monday, the remains were reportedly transported by boat to Gloucester, where members of the Massachusetts State Police were waiting to begin the process of identifying the body.

The victim was reportedly transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston for further examination.
