Another Year Gone By by Dan Rosenberg
Dan Rosenberg, one of Headlight's new Editor-in-Chiefs, reflects on Sophomore year. He talks about how daunting graduation is, congratulates the seniors and looks ahead to a great year of Headlight.
As a sophomore, graduation seems very far away from me, a distant dream. I feel like I will be in Marblehead for a very long time, but in reality, it is only two years away. That’s a little bit scary, and daunting, but I’m encouraged and heartened by Marblehead’s class of 2012, who had their graduation on June 3rd. I know many of these students personally, and it is actually dumbfounding to think that my senior friends will be leaving Marblehead, and going off into the world, whether they are going to college or joining the workforce. However, the reason I’m encourage by these men and women is because I know that they are all ready for the challenges that await them, in the real world. I know that Marblehead High School has prepared them for life outside of this small town, in both social and educational ways. And because I see how well the class of 2012 has been prepared for life after high school, I know that my peers and I will receive the same preparation and nurturing, and the skills that we will need to succeed after leaving this school. It’s very daunting, leaving the small town of Marblehead to go somewhere with thousands upon thousands of people whom you don’t know. But I am quite sure that the graduating class of 2012 will thrive and grow, and in a few years we will be hearing of their numerous and impressive accomplishments.
Among the graduate class this year are quite a few members of Headlight, who will be leaving and reaching greater heights after this year. I would just like to congratulate and wish luck to Matt Lieberson, Danny Plunkett, Paige Kelloway, Joel Katz, and Alex Stein as they leave Marblehead High School. They will all be missed at Headlight.
Finally, I would just like to say that I am looking forward to a great year of Headlight next year. I am honored to have been chosen, along with Grace Perry, to be the coeditor-in-chief of the newspaper next year. It will be hard to follow in the footsteps of the seniors who are leaving, but we will do our best to keep the newspaper as strong as it is today.
