Double Headers – Softball Champions

The Marblehead Junior League Softball Headers are league champions two years running.  The Headers won their last three games of the season to lock up the best record in their division and junior league Championship.  The ladies had an amazing season going 16 -3, losing two of those games by only one run.  The Headers produced 181 runs in those 16 games while allowing only 109 opponents to cross home plate.  Contributing to the season’s success are Anastasia Vainas who hit 6 homeruns.  Anna Cloutman started off the batting order and played amazingly well at shortstop making seemingly impossible catches.  Billie Jacobs stole bases at will in addition to fielding and hitting extremely well all season.  Delia Smith is an incredibly versatile play equally able to lay down a perfect bunt or drive a pitch deep into the outfield.  Frankie Simon is the starting pitcher for the Headers who had amazing consistency pitching strikes and caught countless batters swinging at her off speed pitches.  Justy Needle knocked the cover off the ball all season and once on base often stole her way to home plate.  Marisa Massaro came up big all season when needed most both in the field and at the plate.  McKenzie Joyce had a tremendous season on the mound with an amazing fast rising pitch that was nearly unhittable.  Meghan Tierney homered late in the season to put an exclamation point on her amazing year at the plate and did a stellar job catching for the Headers.  Montana Joyce excels at every position, steals at will, drives pitches and has an amazing love for the game.  Sara Bornstein was tremendous at third all year in addition to adding to the Headers homerun tally.

The ladies were often congratulated by opposing teams not for performance on the field, but for the class, dignified, and respectful nature in which they carried themselves.  That is more important than the outcome of any game.
