An inspired group of JCC members is training for the gruelling Spartan Obstacle Race at Fenway Park on November 18th. The Spartan race is 3+ miles with 15 epic obstacles. The obstacles often include mud and fire pits, wall climbs, crawling under barbed wire and more!
The JCC team is mostly people in their 40s and 50s - new to this type of challenge. JCC General Manager Brian Grable has been training them for several weeks in the J's gymnasium and on the 11-acre campus. They've been whacking heavy bags with sledge hammers, climbing ropes, running suicide sprints with heavy bricks... you name it!

"We're a community at the J and we're training for the race like a community," said Grable. "You should see these guys, they're supporting each other, pushing each other on. It's impressive to see this kind of teamwork."
The training has been so popular, the JCC is launching a Fitness Fusion class in January that will include the same kind of intense obstacle-based workouts. Look for it soon at www.jccns.org. Also, look for updates on the Spartan training and the results from the big day on the J's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/jccns.
