Marblehead Softball Headers Win in Overtime

Hats off to the Swampscott Hurricane’s for a great game Sunday! The Headers battled hard with the Swampscott team to win in dramatic fashion in overtime. McKenzie Joyce started on the mound with four solid innings, striking out six batters and scoring the winning run in the 9th by stealing home. Frankie Simon picked up where McKenzie left off striking out two of the three batters she faced to close out the inning and continued on for the win. Anastasia Vainas (pictured) keeps her homerun streak alive with her combination of speed and great at bats. Sara Bornstein, who earned a game ball, had a great game in left, third and at the plate. After being struck in the back with a fastball, Justy Needle not only stayed in she stole her way home to score the Headers only run in the 5th. Meghan Tierney started at third and unfortunately left the game after injuring her ankle after a head’s up successful steal of home base. Anna Cloutman crossed home twice and was stranded at third with yet another solid performance. Marrisa Massaro did an amazing job at second, where she usually starts, scored in the second and was stranded at third in the sixth. Billie “Flash” Jacobs continues to steal at will and is making great contact with the ball. Delia Smith did an amazing job advancing runners and continues to impress with her versatility in the field. Last, but not least, Montana Joyce, with a showing of endurance, caught all 9 innings. The Swampscott coach complimented Montana several times while coaching third base with ‘she’s good’.
