MHS Fishwagons Beat St. John's

Last Thursday, St. John's Prep traveled down to Marblehead Harbor to face the MHS Sailing Team in a team race.

On Thursday, May 3rd, with a light breeze and fairly clear skies, St. John’s Prep traveled down to Marblehead Harbor to race against the MHS Fishwagons in team race. Having rescheduled this race from the prior Tuesday, due to high winds, the Fishwagons were anxious to get to racing.  For the team race against St. John’s, the two teams each had three boats and the boats had to work together to earn the lowest amount of points (points were based on finishes: 1st place got one point, 2nd place got two points...).  The team that won two out of three races, won the set.  Marblehead did very well on keeping St. John’s back and making sure that they did not win a set.

For the regatta against St. John’s, the Marblehead team was split into two smaller “teams” for each set against St. John’s.  For the first set, it was the teams of (skipper/crew): Ryan Walker/Alex Kerai, Ben Thorne/Meghan Friel, and Emily LaChance/Emily Ivers.  The next set switched up all the groups and brought in the teams of Dave Kinney/Sarah Krypel, Renee Torrie/Peter Lynn, Camille Homa/Carly Hood.

The team finished first, having won both sets.  For this coming week (May 6th – May 12th) the team has one regatta scheduled. On Sunday, May 6th the team will make their debut at the Mass Bay League Team Race Championships at Duxbury Bay Maritime School.  They will back in the harbor, practicing, from Tuesday to Thursday.  So grab your shades and come watch us on from any spot in the harbor!
