MHS Sailing Races Manchester and Sharon

Last weekend the Fishwagons traveled to two regattas in Manchester and Sharon and placed well in both while also being able to work in varied conditions than what they were used.

The MHS Fishwagons had a nice second weekend of sailing, traveling to Sharon, MA on Saturday for the Sharon Invitational Regatta and then on Sunday to Manchester for a team race against Manchester, Wellesley, and Barnstable. Half of the team went to Sharon while the other half went to Manchester.

Marblehead had a strong showing in Sharon, finishing 11 out of 16 teams. The regatta was split into two fleets: Will Hundahl (skipper) and Alex Kerai (crew) sailed the first set of A fleet races with Ryan Walker (skipper) and Emily Mills (crew) sailing the next set of A fleet races. Emily LaChance (skipper) and Emily Ivers (crew) sailed the first set of B fleet races with David Zymba (skipper) and Cashel Rice (crew) sailing the second set of races. There were some great finishes by Will Hundahl and Alex Kerai who finished 1st and 5th in two of the four races they sailed. David Zymba and Cashel Rice also had a strong second place finishing in one of their races. It was a nice day of racing with good weather and shifting wind (steady around 8 knots) that challenged all teams and provided a great learning experience for Marblehead.

On Sunday the team traveled to Manchester and raced against Manchester, Wellesley and Barnstable in that order. It was a four-team team race in 420s. It was a relatively nice day with a NW breeze of 15 to 18 knots and a cloudy sky. For the team racing the combinations were: Peter Lynn (skipper) and Alan McKinnon (crew), Dave Kinney (skipper) and Sara Krypel (crew), Hannah Lynn (skipper) and Ryan Aikman (crew) with Camille Homa replacing Hannah Lynn later on in the day. The team racing was done in sets of 5 races with a school winning the set by winning three races. MHS first raced Manchester and lost 3-0. Next up, the Fishwagons raced against Wellesley and lost 2-3 in a close set that came down to the last race. In their final set, Marblehead beat Barnstable 3-0.

It was a great weekend of sailing with the Fishwagons doing fairly well at both events. During this vacation week, the Fishwagons will be practicing this afternoon in Marblehead harbor in preparation for the New England Qualifiers this Saturday in Portland, Maine. So grab your shades this afternoon and come watch the Fishwagons from any spot in the harbor!
