MHS Sailing Team Places Third In Weekend Regatta
Last weekend, the MHS Sailing Team traveled down to Tabor Academy for a four-team team race in Marion in preparation for upcoming team races this week.
On Saturday, April 28, under clear skies and a cool breeze, the MHS Sailing Team traveled down to Tabor Academy in Marion Mass to compete in a team race against Duxbury High School, Rocky Hill High School, and Tabor Academy. With the day being compromised of three sets of races (each best three out of five), Marblehead got the opportunity to race against every team. For Saturday’s team racing, each school had three boats and the boats had to work together to earn the lowest amount of points (points were based on finishes: 1st place got one point, 2nd place got two points...). Marblehead did a great job with communication on the water, with the skippers shouting out advice to their teammates throughout the races.
For Saturday’s regatta, the Marblehead team was split into three smaller “teams” for each set of races. For the first set, it was the teams of (skipper/crew): Nick LaChance/Carly Hood, Peter Lynn/Ryan Aikman, and Renee Torrie/Alan McKinnon. The next set switched up crews along with substituting Nick LaChance for Dave Kinney; the teams were Dave Kinney/Emily Mills, Peter Lynn/Ryan Hoey, Renee Torrie/Margo Blagdon . For the final set, just a few of the pairs were switched: Dave Kinney/Alex Kerai, Peter Lynn/Ryan Hoey, and for the first two races of the set, Renee Torrie/Dylan Mace and then for the last two races of the set, Nick LaChance/Dylan Mace.
The team finished third overall with some very strong races. For this coming week (April 30th – May 5th) the team has a regatta scheduled for Thursday, May 3rd, St. John’s Prep is coming to Marblehead Harbor to team race against MHS in the afternoon. This race had been previously scheduled for last Tuesday, but had been canceled due to high winds. So grab your shades and come cheer us on from any spot in the harbor!
