Spirit Week by Meredith Piela

As Marblehead High School students, the moment we have talked about, prepared for, and waited for is finally here, Spirit Week. If you don’t already know, Spirit Week is a week or two and a half days, where students at Marblehead High School show both school and town spirit to get pumped up for the annual Thanksgiving football game against our biggest rival, Swampscott.

Weeks before Spirit Week, the senior class officers decide colors and themes for each class. This year, freshman colors are green and gray with an army theme; sophomore colors are pink and yellow with a SpongeBob & Patrick/ Bikini Bottom theme; junior colors are purple and brown with a Willy Wonka theme; and finally, the senior colors are red and black with a Casino theme. The hallways will be decorated on Monday, November 19th with each individual class theme, in hopes to be voted, “most spirited.”

As well as deciding color themes, seniors also decide a school wide theme for Tuesday, November 20th. This year’s theme is “geek chic,” so there will be a lot of bow ties, glasses, and collared shirts, maybe even a few pocket protectors. On Wednesday, November 21st, Spirit Week concludes with the most exciting event of all, a pep rally. Students are asked to wear both red and black. Inside the pep rally there will be music (provided by the MHS band, chorus, and a cappella), games, fall sports teams recognition, and of course, school spirit!

In order to have a successful Spirit Week, students should dress up to show their spirit. After all, what’s the point of Spirit Week without spirit? Hopefully, when this week concludes, students can look back on the week’s events and agree that it was not only successful, but tons of fun!
