Troop 11 Thanks Community for Successful Tree Sale

Troop 11 thanks the community for another successful Christmas trees sale.

Troop 11 thanks the Marblehead community for another successful year of tree sales to support the troop's annual activities and equipment needs.

Sales started on November 26th with the setting up of the tree stands and signs, and the unloading of the truck delivering the trees. The last few trees sold on December 11th during the first half of the patriots game. The biggest sales day was Saturday, Dec. 10, with more than 200 trees leaving at a brisk pace all day.

Troop 11 donates several trees each year to local families who cannot afford a tree, with the assistance of the YMCA, which hands out vouchers to families in need.

Tree sales help to support the troop's equipment needs and its monthly camping and hiking activities. In January, the troop will participate in the Great Eastern District's Klondike Derby. That weekend involves camping out in the snow, sled races and other training and advancement exercises.

This year's Klondike will focus on emergency preparedness. The younger scouts will spend a week this summer at a Boy Scout camp in New Hampshire. Twelve of the older scouts will spend two weeks in New Mexico in August, for a backpacking trek in the back country at the Philmont Scout Reservation. The base camp at Philmont from which all hikers leave is at 6000' and the scouts are aiming for a trek which will involve climbing the two highest mountains at Philmont, Mt. Baldy at approximately 12,000' and The Tooth of Time at approximately 11,000'.  The Tooth of Time was famous during the wagon train days as it confirmed how far from Santa Fe they were on the Santa Fe Trail.
