YMCA Upcoming Programs

Take a look at all the great things that you can take part in coming up here at the YMCA!

Spring II Registration
Registration for Spring II programs is now open.  Go to www.northshoreymca.org to view our brochure and see all the great classes and programs we have coming up to keep you active and engaged this Spring.  New programs include Tiny Tumblers and Dancers that lets kids try both gymnastics and ballet activities, a Monadnock camping trip for youth, skate zone hours and skateboard lessons for youth and adults, Dawn Patrol Surf/Paddle Club for adults, and adaptive programming for youth and adults with disabilities.  If you are not a member of the YMCA, now is a great time to join.  Come on down for a tour and find out how.  We are located at 40 Leggs Hill Rd., Marblehead, MA, or call 781-631-9622. 

Healthy Kids Day® /Summer Camp Open House

On Saturday, April 27, from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
The Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event to get kids and families moving and living healthier, as well as a Summer Camp Open House. The Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day will feature fun active play and educational activities that will inspire kids to carry a spirit of excitement and exploration throughout their summer, including a nature hike, games in our pool, a reading initiative, family fitness classes, gymnastics dance party and cooking classes.  In addition, Home Depot is leading a wood working project, Full Potential Chiropractic is offering spinal screenings, and New York Life is providing Child ID Kits for parents.  The Marblehead and Swampscott Fire Departments will be on hand as well to discuss fire safety and show kids how their gear works.
Summer camp staff will be on hand as well to run some of our most popular summer camp activities so you can have a camp experience to hold you over until summer.  Included in the event will be camp give aways and prizes.  Information and registrations materials for all of our amazing summer camps will be available for participants.  YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day/Camp open House takes place at 40 Leggs Hill Road, Marblehead. Healthy Kids Day Membership and Camp Promotions!
Membership: Anyone who signs up for a membership on this day will have the joiner fee waived.  This is a great opportunity for you to join the Y and take advantage of all the great programming we have coming up this Spring.
Summer Camp: Any one who signs up for summer camp on this day will receive camp survival gear.  The more weeks of camp you sign up for, the more gear you get!  In addition, we will be holding raffles every hour to give away discounts on programs and a free week of summer camp!

Preschool and Youth T-ball and Baseball Leagues
Ages: 3.5 – 6 Yrs
Fee: Member $65  Community $98
Date: May 4th
Join Y staff and volunteer coaches for our popular t-ball and baseball league.  Each week, players participate in a practice followed by a game.  Children will learn the fundamentals of each sport in a fun and encouraging atmosphere coached by YMCA staff and volunteers.  The preschool leagues are for ages 3 ½ -4 year olds and the youth leagues are for ages 5-6.  The T-ball and Baseball Leagues run Saturday mornings on the turf field at Salem State University and are either at 8:30 or 9:30am.

Preschool and Youth  Soccer Leagues
Ages: 3.5 – 6 Yrs
Fee: Member $65  Community $98

It’s spring and spring means soccer.  Get your little one started early learning the fundementals in a fun and encouraging atmosphere coached by YMCA staff and volunteers.  The lessons learned about teamwork and skills they acquire will carry with them as they grow and progress to town leagues.  The Soccer Leagues run Sunday afternoons at 11:30am for preschoolers and 1:30pm for youth at the Y on our outdoor field.  Please contact Emily Hudak if you would like to volunteer coach or with questions at hudake@northshoreymca.og or 781-990-7044.  

Y Skate Zone
Fee: Y Members FREE Community $5
Skateboard, scooters, and rollerblades are all welcome at the new Skate Zone! Open to skaters of all ages and experience levels;beginners will get pointers and tips from knowledgeable staff and experienced skaters, and expereinced skaters can work on their tricks in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Helmets are required,skaters under 8 must be accompanied by an adult, and all skaters must have a signed parent waiver available online or at the Y. Skateboard Lessons

These lessons are for the individual who is new to the sport. We will teach you proper foot placement, proper safety procedures, and how to balance, ollie, turn, push, and ride transition. Skaters need a board, helmet, elbow and knee pads, and a signed parent waiver available online or at the Y. Classes are 45 minutes and limited to 5 participants.

25+ Men’s Basketball League
Ages: 25 yrs and up

Date: April 17th
The start of our next 4 on 4 basketball season is Wednesday, April 17. All games are 20 minute running halves and all teams qualify for the playoffs. Captains will submit team rosters to John Cordeiro prior to the start of the season at cordeiroj@northshoreymca.org. If you are interested in participating as an individual, please contact John and he will try and place you on a team.  Games are at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00pm.

Cinco de Mayo Family Zumba Party
Ages: All ages

A great way to celebrate the festivities of Cinco de Mayo with fun music and dancing!  Join instructors Jen Nicosia and Kim Crowley for this fun class for all ages.  All proceeds go to the Y For All campaign.


Building Core Support with Body-Mind Centering and Yoga with Elaine Wintman
Ages: 18 and up
Fee: Member $20 Community $33
Date: Saturday, May 4th, 2:00 PM
Most of us want more core strength and support.  Elaine will focus on the deep muscles of the iliopsoas complex.  You don’t have to know the names to feel the effect!  As you support your spine, you will find more ease and comfort in your yoga practice and in your life.  As you understand your body more fully,  you can work with it and do things you didn’t think you could do.  This workshop will include some anatomy, Body-Mind Centering and yoga.  BMC is an integrated and embodied approach to movement.  Instructor Elaine Wintman is a longtime yoga teacher and Certified Teacher of Body-Mind Centering.  Length of workshop is 2 hours.
