Marblehead - The annual Labor Day Regatta, sponsored by the Boston Yacht Club will be held in Marblehead Harbor on Monday September 2, 2013. Skippers from around the North Shore are registering their sail boats for the event. The format will be a pursuit race, in which vessels start at varying times according to their handicap and ratings. You can register to race at: www.regattaman.com There will be a raffle and auction after the race at the Boston Yacht Club with all proceeds going this year to Sailing Heals (www.sailingheals.org). Sailing Heals provides an on the water afternoon to cancer patients, their families and caregivers. The program began in 2011 in Marblehead and has grown to include sailing excursions throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Florida and New York. This summer a total of 200 patients went sailing, many of them patients at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer center. Many times the sailing experience is accompanied by lunch.
Sailing Heals pairs boat owners and host captains, who volunteer their time and vessels, with cancer patients. The nonprofit has become the official charity of the Boston Yacht Club in 2013.

On Friday, Sept. 6 the Boston Yacht Club will host the official “BYC” day on the water in which members will treat the cancer patients to lunch and an afternoon on the water. Members and the community can sponsor a table. If you would like to sponsor a table, please email: sbragdon@comcast.net.
