Did you know that September is National Preparedness Month. Would you be able to gather up your important papers if you had to leave your home in a hurry? Of course, really important papers such as deeds, birth/marriage/death certificates and SS cards are best kept in a safe, fireproof place like a bank safety deposit box. Consider using a small portable file to house the documents, records and files that you keep at home, as well as information about health insurance, finances, etc. This keeps them easy to access. Clearly label the box so that others can find it if needed.
