Cultural Council Grants Announced
A record $9,200 in grants awarded to a diverse group of seven artistic, historic & cultural events this year.
The Marblehead Cultural Council has voted to award grants to fund seven major events over the course of 2022. For the first time ever, the MCC approved its own project to support an expanded celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day in Marblehead.
Other funded projects include: Jonathan Sherman’s “Great Thinkers” exhibit at the Jeremiah Lee Mansion, Kristen Nyberg’s “Growing Up in the Shipyard” exhibit, Marblehead Community Charter School’s “You Are Loved” mural, “Negro Election Day” historic outdoor exhibit at Salem Willows in conjunction with Marblehead Museum & NAACP, A Celtic Celebration” by Davis Bates at Abbot Public Library, Mass Audubon’s “Springtime Bird Walk” at the Marblehead Neck Sanctuary.
In recent years, the MCC has developed a more focused process to fund proposals that address specific needs and populations in town with emphasis on cultural and historic diversity. The MCC is appointed by the Marblehead Selectmen and funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
