Driver Knocks Down Tree on Humphrey Street

Thursday, Dec. 18
At 8:34 a.m., the Water Department notified police after they struck a gas line while digging on Harding Lane. Police and Fire responded and National Grid was notified. The road was blocked for a short time.
At 9:47 a.m., a resident reported that a neighbor asks for rides home from people and has been doing it for years. She said he’s too lazy to walk home or use Council on Aging services. Police notified the COA.

At 12:50 p.m., a Tedesco Street resident reported finding a large pile of broken wood furniture and debris in the yard. There were tire tracks that led to where the debris was dumped. The pile was later picked up. The caller has no idea who left and picked up the debris.
At 2:11 p.m., police received a call from a resident who said she received a scam phone call. The scam caller asked for the woman’s credit card number or the computer would be “wiped out.”

At 3:19 p.m., a person reported losing an 18k gold necklace with a large 18k cross that is valued at $600 about a month ago on Pleasant Street.
At 4:12 p.m., a resident reported an IRS scam phone call. The scammer left a message saying the IRS was going to sue the person and to call immediately.
At 8:54 p.m., police responded to Humphrey Street after a motorist struck and knocked down a tree. Traffic was diverted from the scene. The driver refused medical treatment. The car was towed.
At 10:54 p.m., police arrested Joshua T. White, 22, 202 Atlantic Ave., Swampscott, and charged him with possessing a Class B drug and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Police made the arrest during a traffic stop on Atlantic Avenue.
