“Self Revealed”, a mixed fiber media show of wearable art pieces created by fiber artist Robin Taliesin, will be on display for most of January, 2013, in the Stetson Gallery of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead, 28 Mugford St., Marblehead.  There will be an opening reception on Sunday, Jan. 6, from 12-2 pm, and a meet the artist event on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 12-1 pm. All are welcome.

Robin has been involved in exploring artistic expression throughout her life. She has trained in diverse fine art and craft fields, as well as dance, costume design, set design and technical production for the theatre. Professionally, she is a successful commercial artist and co-owner of a local advertising agency, Raven Creative.

Over the years, Robin has created many painted works on canvas or as murals, and other fine art pieces but her theatrical background left her with a special passion for costume as personal expression. Her motivation for creating these fiber art pieces is twofold: first, to experience and share the sensual pleasure inherent in the wonderful mix of color and texture found in the world of fiber – from silk to sequins. Robin also loves to serve as a spiritual midwife of sorts, helping people to let their inner self venture forth and be expressed in the lively use of color and texture, thus the title of the show.

The works chosen for this show are all one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted items. The process usually starts with knitting, then felting, than sewing and shaping, then ornamenting in a variety of ways until the final piece emerges. Many of the works shown are available for purchase; Robin also accepts commissions to create unique individual garments or accessories. Customarily, Robin’s work can be seen by appointment at her Marblehead studio, Heron Gallery, or through its online presence, herongallery.com. For inquiries please contact Robin at 781-608-9657.

Stetson Gallery was founded in 1995 to showcase artist members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead and the wider artistic community. If Gallery lights are on and the door to the Gallery is unlocked, visitors may enjoy the exhibit. In addition, the Church Administrator and the curators can make themselves available to show an exhibit.
