The Stetson Art Gallery in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead reopens Sunday, May 6, with an exhibit of the works of versatile Marblehead artist Jean Fogle. An opening reception will be held at noon.
Stetson Gallery was curated for more that 15 years by Linda Weltner, who brought a wide variety of talents, skills, and artistic approaches to the gallery’s monthly exhibits. Curatorship has recently been assumed by Anthony and Jo Ann Silva of Marblehead, longtime church members who have pledged to continue and expand the mission to bring excellent work to the exhibit space.
In addition to Jean Fogle’s exhibit, the Silvas announced the full 2012 calendar year of exhibits by award-winning North Shore artists in Stetson Gallery: June, Marblehead painter and sculptor Em Marquis Brown; July and August, Gloucester watercolorist Kathleen Staab; September, Marblehead photographer John Fletcher; October, Marblehead painter and photographer Richard Buckley; and November, Salem painter Sheila Farren Billings. The Silvas are currently in the process of booking 2013 exhibits with local artists.
Marblehead artist Jean Fogle enjoys the creative process through many media and art forms. As a painter, she explores with acrylic, oil, watercolor and collage to develop imagery that can be figurative or abstract.
Her work as a decorative artist, under the name Pigments of the Imagination, features painted furniture and atmospheric wall treatments including murals and faux and fancy finishes.
As a theatre artist, Jean designs sets, costumes and scenic painting for several North Shore theatre companies. Jean has been recognized with awards in all these endeavors and exhibits regularly in both group and solo shows.
Jean is a member of The Marblehead Arts Association and LynnArts. She is a graduate of Vesper George School of Art, with further study at the Museum of Fine Arts, Kaji Aso Studio and Montserrat College of Art.
Jean will be exhibiting a series of collages, using Chinese newsprint, inks, paint and raffia at the Stetson Gallery.
