TNT!2011 - Totally New Theater Readings/Reception

“TNT!2011 - TOTALLY NEW THEATER” FESTIVAL TO EXPLODE WITH FREE EVENING OF READINGS PLUS A WINE RECEPTION AT MARBLEHEAD LITTLE THEATRE

TNT!2011, a play development retreat for writers produced by local playwright Shari Frost for Marblehead Little Theatre, is returning for its third annual event this June. On Saturday, June 18 at 8pm, an evening of readings free to the public followed by a wine reception (also free) will provide the unique opportunity to meet the local and visiting playwrights, and experience and discuss their work. Space is first-come, first-served at the theater on 12 School Street in Marblehead, and doors will open at 7:30pm.

Producer Shari Frost is also a participant, and her play Time Travel is Good for the Complexion about a son struggling with his mother’s early Alzheimer’s Disease will be read on the 18th. Anne Lucas, also of Marblehead, plans to include What You Want to Hear, a play in two scenes, in this event. Henry Dembowski of Swampscott will direct many of the plays, although a few of the writers have chosen to direct their own.

Clay McLeod Chapman, returning as TNT’s Faculty Mentor, will also read an original piece on the 18th. He resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he is currently working on the book for broadway musical SCKBSTD with music by Bruce Hornsby, recently highlighted in the New York Times as one of five eagerly anticipated musical productions in development that “aren’t afraid to make their audiences squirm.”

This year’s writers, six in all, are coming from Seattle and New York City, as well as a variety of locations throughout Massachusetts. During a weekend-long event that begins on Thursday, June 16 and runs through Sunday, June 19, the writers will attend a variety of workshops and rehearsals to further develop works-in-progress.
