Voting Day

Votes were cast today at St. Stephen’s Nursery School.  100% voter turnout!

The Transitional Kindergarten students under the direction of their teacher Ms. Norma and student teacher from North Shore Community College Ms. Brittany talked about voting today.

There was an engaging discussion about what important issues should be decided upon in today’s election.  Ballot slips listing the choices in both picture and print were created, a ballot box constructed out of a recycled shoe box and decorated by the children was put in place.  The ballot slips were carefully passed to each “voter”.  The political process was underway.

After waiting for their turn in line, each child with their ballots in hand deposited them into the ballot box. The voter turnout was 100%.  The children anxiously awaited the results of their election as they counted votes with the teachers.

It was a very close race.  The ballot question was: What special snack would the children like to have at school?

The results:  Cupcakes came in first, followed by fruit kabobs as a close second, one vote for jello and surprisingly no votes for cookies.  Thank you to everyone who voted today. Go Cupcakes!
