2. Read Across America: The official "Read Across America Day" (AKA Dr. Seuss' birthday) is Saturday. Get a head start with two reading events at Wit & Whimsy Children's Bookstore. There's a reading of The Cat in the Hat for toddlers at 9:30 a.m. today and The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins for the five-and-up set at 3 p.m.

3. Magicians in Action: The Marblehead High School boys ice hockey team will face Rockport on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Stoneham High. Rockport beat Wayland 4-1 on Thursday to advance.

4. Fall Lineup for Folkies: Me & Thee Coffee House announced that its fall lineup so far includes Loudon Wainwright III, Patty Larkin and Slaid Cleaves. 5. "Accidentally on Purpose": Marblehead Little Theatre brings back their popular improv show on Saturday for two performances at 7 and 9 p.m.
