Girls' Tennis Suffers First Loss
Andover knocks off the girls' tennis team, 3-2 in a tight battle Tuesday afternoon in Marblehead.
The Marblehead girls’ tennis team dropped their first match of the season, falling at home to Andover, 3-2, Tuesday afternoon at the High School
The Golden Warriors (9-2) and Headers were tied 2-2 with Mary-Lindsay Ryan and Megan Stanojev trying to knock off Andover’s Reid Campbell and Melanie Zakin at second doubles to win the match.
Campbell and Zakin opened up with a 6-3 win; Ryan and Stanojev won the second set 6-3, but lost the last set 6-1, giving Andover the win.

Marblehead (5-1) battled the Division One program hard all afternoon, moving ahead early when Ashley Noyes beat Andover’s Sarah Arvidson 6-0, 6-0 in first singles.
The Golden Warriors evened things up at 1-1 after Michelle Krupnick, playing third singles, dropped Sarah Katz, 6-2, 6-0.

Second singles finished up moments after Krupnick’s win, Rachel Ochs defeated Marblehead senior Julia Burke, 6-2, 6-3.
Marblehead pulled even at 2-2 after a great comeback in second doubles by Annie Ryan and Lindsey Cohen.
After Andover’s Kelsey Chapman and Sam Camillo romped to a 6-1 win in the first set, Ryan and Cohen rebounded with a 6-4 win in the second set, and won the match with a solid 6-3 win in the third set.
“That’s a good team, they’re a strong opponent,” Marblehead tennis coach Tim Stonecipher said. “The weather condition weren’t ideal, but we battled them hard all afternoon.”
“I targeted them in the offseason to set up a match,” Stonecipher said. “It’s a good barometer for us.”
Marblehead will try to get right back to their winning ways when they travel to Gloucester on Wednesday afternoon.
The girls host Cambridge Rindge & Latin at 4 p.m. Friday, at Marblehead High School.
