Joyce Bartlett has been drawing and painting since childhood, and has experimented with a wide range of materials including pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, oils, and mixed media. She is a self-described “mad scientist” when it comes to media—combining oil paint and other mediums in rather unusual combinations. Crias Corrigan is an oil painter, printmaker, photographer, and also produces art in dry and mixed media formats. As a resident of Essex Massachusetts, he continuously delves into the local flora, fauna and natural landscape. Raw Art Works has passionately pursued its mission to ignite the desire to create and the confidence to succeed, using the power of the arts to transform young lives, serving at-risk youths in downtown Lynn. In their “In a Word” exhibit, these young artists answered the question, “What three-letter word represents what you value in your life?” They were challenged through observational drawing to depict their own hands in sign language spelling out the word while creating a composition to further describe how the word related to them.
