Headers Celebrate Magical Season

Marblehead High School's boys' hockey team gathered at Mino's Restaurant Tuesday night and reflected on their 6-3 win over Westfield Sunday that earned them the Division III state championship.

Members of boys' hockey team watched a replay of their stellar performance in Sunday's game at Tuesday night. Proceeds from the celebration benefited the high school's boys' hockey program and the fans who turned out had the opportunity to leave a long-lasting thank you to the boys who made Marblehead so proud.

As he lined players up for a team photo, Head Coach Bob Jackson admitted that he was still recovering from at the TD Garden in Boston and that he had spent the majority of Monday getting some much-needed rest and relaxation.

"Yesterday was a lost day and I'll be heading to bed right after I leave here tonight," Jackson said with a laugh. "We're trying to raise some money tonight so we can put together a nice banquet for the players and for our budget - so that we can have a strong program moving forward and keep this success going."

Although the game was played only 48-hours beforehand, Chris MacLeod, who had four points in the game Sunday, said it was nice to "relive the glory days," and  the fact that he had finished his high school hockey career as a champion was "finally sinking in."

Kostas Travayiakis, owner of Mino's Roast Beef, said he was glad to host Sunday's benefit dinner. In honor of the victory, Travayiakis transformed the back wall of his restaurant into a place where fans and local businesses can leave a message to the team for $5.

"Every dollar we make tonight is going back to the team," Travayiakis said, adding that owners had come up with the idea for making the back wall a message board three months before the team won the championship and just had to wait for them to come through.

Jackson said the team's banquet is scheduled to be held on April 17.
