Marblehead begins their march to another swim team title with a solid 107-64 win over Swampscott Tuesday at the Lynch-Van Otterloo YMCA
's swim team hit the water against Swampscott Tuesday afternoon at the and kicked off the 2011-2012 season with a win.
Marblehead blasted out to an early lead in the swim events, maintained the sizeable advantage through the diving events and finished strong in the relays to earn a 107-64 win over the Big Blue.
“It was a nice job by our swimmers, absolutely,” Marblehead's head coach Susan Guertin said after the meet. “It’s so rewarding to be around these kids when they start swimming, to see them progress and succeed on the high school level is wonderful.”

In addition to her duties to the high school's swim team, Guertin gives swimming lessons and coaches at the YMCA. Her commitment to the local swimming community, Guertin said, has allowed her watch many of her swimmers develop their skills over the years.
“It's such a thrill for me to coach and what's really great is to have these kids come back and work for me as lifeguards or teaching swim lessons," Guertin said. "It's a way for them to give back, which is really important."

Tyler Phillips finished first in diving and qualified for states at the first meet of the season. Zach Romanovsky finished second in the diving category and qualified for sectionals.
“It’s always good to win and it’s even nicer to beat Swampscott to start the season,” Romanovsky said.
Big Blue coach Meghan Simpson said she was impressed with the gutsy performance put in by her team Tuesday night.
“We had some good times by our team, strong efforts, but Marblehead really did a nice job today, they’ve got a strong team,” Simpson said.
Marblehead moves to 1-0 on the season and heads to Lynn Tech for a diving meet on Friday afternoon before hosting Salem next Tuesday at the YMCA. That meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
