High School Playoff Season Begins

Our "Five Things to Know Today" column provides essential daily information at a glance, including the schedule for some of Marblehead High School's participation in this semester's playoffs.

1. Weather Watch: Mostly sunny and a little cooler, with a high near 64. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon.

2. Huge Sewer Project Has Business Owners Nervous: The Pleasant Street-Area Drain Project, which Town Meeting approved last year, is set to begin this summer. It's our lead story this morning, as many local business owners are concerned about the project's impact on their bottom lines. On Monday, the Water & Sewer Board holds a public meeting about the project. 5:30 p.m. Monday at 100 Tower Way, Building 11.

3. Information Session About Our Lady Star of the Sea Cemetery: If you're planning for your earthly remains to stay in Marblehead, the Star of the Sea Cemetery has an information session on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

4. Magicians in Action: The Marblehead High School girls tennis squad hosts Winthrop this afternoon at 4 p.m. Here are the details.

5. More Sports: Playoff season is starting. Today, for instance, the NEC holds its javelin meet at Peabody High at 4 p.m. And on Saturday, the Marblehead High track squad competes in the NEC Meet, to be held in Lynn starting at 9:30 a.m.
