UPDATED: Flip Out This Week
Welcome to "About Town," the column that will keep you up to the minute with what's what, who's who and what the town's talking about. Check in often, because we will be updating often. And if you see something...say something.

GREETINGS!
My name is Stacey Marcus and I am excited to be writing the About Town column for Patch. I have lived in Marblehead for more than 20 years and am constantly so amazed that for such a small town, it's always percolating with so many things to do.
I see Marblehead through the lens of a writer and am in awe of the endless material at my fingertips.

This weekend, I went for a run along the beach and watched surfers paddle waves on Devereux Beach while a golden retriever walked his owner on the Causeway and a couple of love birds canoodled on the wall. It epitomized what I love about this town. The history, culture, charm and characters of Marblehead provide endless fodder to write about.
I was thrilled when Patch Editor Katie Curley-Katzman invited me to write the About Town column as it will allow me to use my skills as a writer and curiosity as a human to craft daily updates about the place we are lucky to call home.

I am on the lookout for fun stuff to share with our readers, interesting tidbits of information about people and businesses and virtually all things Marblehead that our virtual readers need to know. Send me stuff TODAY at staceyatpatch@gmail.com.
FLIP OUT
Does your son or daughter like gymnastics? Be sure to visit the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA and try a free gymnastics class. Open to boys and girls 1 and up who have never tried a gymnastics class at the Y the week of September 20-24. Call Danielle at 781-990-7011 for more information.
CAT CALL
Here kitty, kitty. Have you been wanting to adopt a cat? Visit the Marblehead Animal Shelter at 44 Village St., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. Did you know that in 2009 the shelter found homes for 78 cats, 32 kittens, five birds, four dogs, two ferrets, and one guinea pig? That's 122 animals saved thanks to this wonderful organization.
LOCAL AUTHOR
Be sure to stop by Spirit of '76 and check out The Widower's Tale by Marblehead author Julia Glass. The book, published earlier this month, is the fourth by the national award winning author. Are you an artist, photographer or author with a story to tell? Write to me at Staceyatpatch@gmail.com and I will happily share your latest news.
TAILGATE DOWNTOWN
Talk about a home team advantage. Marblehead's Hurricane Restaurant and Bar on Washington Street had quite the crowd Sunday. That's because during Pats games this season, they are the place to go for tailgating. Before the game, there are hot dogs and sausages. During half time, there is a free buffet. Raffles are also done for packages and tickets. Who needs to fight Route 1 traffic in Foxborough? Enjoy the game in Marblehead.
SAFE SAILING
If you're planning to take to the high seas today, watch out. A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening according to the National Weather Service. Hurricane Igor may pose even less of a threat than the disappointing Earl, but Igor is sending waves this way today. Dangerous rip currents are also being reported.
RUB ELBOWS WITH PROFESSIONALS
