Newsweek has ranked the top high schools in the U.S. — And while Marblehead High isn't on the list, that might not mean much.
For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. Marblehead Patch reached out to the district's superintendent to see if the town responded to the survey, but we haven't heard back from him.

Marblehead High also didn't appear on a similar U.S. News and World Report survey. But last year Boston Magazine honored Marblehead High as the 21st-best high school in Boston or the Boston suburbs.

The Newsweek survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweek’s final rankings.
