MARBLEHEAD, MA — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified in the last two years. July 4 is just around the corner, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

What: Marblehead Fireworks and Illumination 2022

When: July 4

The Harbor Illumination is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. when flares are lit all around the perimeter of the harbor, creating a ring of light that sets the stage for the main event: at 9:15 the fireworks are launched off a barge at the mouth of Marblehead Harbor, which creates ideal viewing opportunities for the public from the parks at Fort Sewall, Chandler Hovey Park, and Crocker Park, as well as for boaters, yacht club members at the five clubs that are located around the harbor as well as several private residences all around the harbor and Marblehead Neck.

Fireworks will begin 15 minutes later this year than in previous years to provide a better viewing experience.

The rain date is July 5.
