Knit Your Socks Off in Marblehead School of Ballet's New Series

Come in from the cold! The Marblehead School of Ballet's second knitting class series starts February 7 for dancers and nondancers.

Are you shivering in this freezing winter weather? Stay nimble and warm in the Marblehead School of Ballet’s (MSB) new knitting class series. The four session knitting series begins on February 7 and continues on February 21, March 7, and March 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at MSB, located at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts. The class is open to the public.

Students, ages 9 and up, dancers and nondancers, are welcome to attend. No previous knitting experience is required. Novices will learn the basics and established knitters will enhance their skills. Students will create legwarmers, a sweater, or a tote bag.

Instructor Amy Novins returns to the school to inspire others to pick up their knitting needles and make their own creations. As many children, Ms. Novins learned the art of knitting and crocheting from her grandmother. She pursued a career in industrial, exhibition, graphic and jewelry design and has knitted and crocheted a range of handmade products from scarves to stuffed animals, while also designing her own patterns.

Celebrating its 43rd year, the Marblehead School of Ballet, founded in 1971 by Paula K. Shiff, has earned a wide reputation for the excellence of its training and integrity of purpose. Classical ballet forms the core of teaching with particular emphasis on correct alignment and development of strength and agility. The sheer pleasure of dance and of music is always central to the classroom experience.

The basic graded program for children includes classes in ballet technique with advanced work in repertoire and pointe. The school also offers a modern dance department, classes for young children in creative movement and classes in improvisation and technique for the older student. A full range of adult classes is offered.

MSB is home to the North Shore Civic Ballet Company (NSCBC). The NSCB gives concert performances and a variety of educational programs for schools; all are suitable for different age groups and levels of development.
